The artwork consists of an augmented reality visualization of the flood event that occurred in Venice during the 2019 Acqua Granda, making it possible to experience first hand the 2019 high water through augmented reality, from anywhere in the city or even at home, with your mobile phone (iOS/Android) but without boots and without damage. Thanks to the data of the Venice Tidal Centre people will find themselves flooded again, depending on the altitude of where they are. In the mobile app, a 3D mesh (surface) of water will be displayed realistically or abstractly (or mixed) based on actual 2019 flood data collected by the Venice Tidal Centre. Since the height of the ground level plane will be different depending on where the app is being experienced, the high water escape lines will also be different in height. The overall idea of this project is to offer a picture of what the city of Venice looked like during the events of the 2019 Acqua Granda flood. The artwork, thanks to its hyper-realistic effect will allow everyone to experience the enormous impact this phenomenon has had on our city.

*The data displayed on high water come from the detection stations in the territory of Venice: Punta Salute Grand Canal, Giudecca, Palazzo Cavalli, North Lagoon, Misericordia, Burano, Chioggia Vigo, Lido Fusina.

Joeri Bulteel is a developer and sound-artist from Brussels currently living in Berlin. He did a bachelor in sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, focusing on computer music, and a master in applied computer science at the University of Brussels (VUB). The past five years he has been working as a mobile developer, making iPhone apps mostly but also doing all sorts of other programming for desktop applications, for 3D visualizations, and for the web. In his spare time he makes music using self-written software under his artist name ‘&apos'. His music is algorithmic-based, meaning rhythms and patterns are created by the use of algorithmic techniques such as constraint randomness.
